Computer Science and Technology Committee
The The Computer Science and Technology Committee of the NFB of SC was established to promote the use of technology by the blind of South Carolina. One of its first projects in the early 1990s was to establish a computer lab at the Federation Center of the blind for the purpose of providing instruction in the use of the computer with various assistive technology free of charge or at minimal cost to blind South Carolinians.
Maintenance of this lab remains one of the primary projects of the CST Committee, although the format and scope of instruction has changed over the years. Currently, The Federation Center provides basic keyboarding and introductory level instruction five days a week under a cooperative agreement with the SC Commission for the Blind. In addition, the CSTC periodically offers one day classes in various aspects of computer access on Saturdays. Watch the
Calendar of Upcoming Events for our schedule of classes, and help us to plan what classes to offer by completing our
brief survey.
In addition to maintaining the computer lab and offering various classes, the CSTC also maintains the official web site of the NFB of SC and hosts a variety of
internet mailing lists.
The CSTC funds these projects through a variety of fund raising activities throughout the year, as well as revenue from our Saturday classes and donations from visitors to our web site.
